AshantiGold stormed Kumasi with a calculated effort of walking away with a point and succeeded in doing so as they held Asante Kotoko to a goalless draw in their outstanding match day 2 league game on Wednesday.
The first half was an end to end action, as both sides created some decent goal scoring opportunities, however, the attackers failed to live up to the billing when they squandered the chances that came their way: Dauda Mohammed could have registered a goal for Kotoko, so as Alhassan Nuhu for the league champions.
Both Kotoko and Ashgold were full of fight, but the half ended without a goal from either side.
The host back from recess, upped their game and exerted their dominance, but they failed to breach the Ashgold defence which was very discipline.
Ashgold also came into the game and managed to threaten the Kotoko defence line, which had Ohene Brenya, Ahmed Adams, Amos Frimpong and Samuel Kyere, however, they managed to hold Alhassan Nuhu and Frederick Quayson from advancing.
After 4 minutes of added time, neither the hosts, nor the visitors were able to put the ball at the back of the net, so it ended goalless.
This game is the 10th goalless draw between these sides, in their league encounters that date back to the 1985-86 season.
Asante Kotoko will go 2 points, after three games, while Ashgold will gain 5 points from a possible 9.
