Defending Ghana Premier League champions Ashanti Gold failed to break the defensive setup of Berekum Chelsea as they were held to a goalless draw on Saturday at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
The Miners following their CAF Champions League exit turned their focus on the domestic top-flight championship and their aim was to beat Berekum Chelsea to appease their numerous fans but they failed to glitter.
Despite enjoying possession from onset, they lacked ideas whenever they got to the final third of the away side.
Alhassan Nuhu and Fuseini Nuhu combined neatly to open the defense of Berekum Chelsea but Isaac Amoah’s low shot narrowly missed the post.
Berekum Chelsea also had their moment in the first half but Saddick Adams shot wide with Ashanti Gold’s shot-stopper Robert Dabuo virtually on holiday.
The Miners threatened heavily in the second half, Kadri Mohammed palmed off Chelsea’s goalkeeper Tijani while Fuseini Nuhu failed to connect home Nti Mensah’s driven cross.
Ashanti Gold pressured for the final minutes of the game forcing Solomon Odwo’s side to defend deep as they stood their grounds to earn a draw against the Premier League champions.
