Five people have been saved by the timely intervention of The Sugar Project in Moree in the Central region.
Unaware of their sugar (glucose) level, the five people walked to the stand to access the free screening and counseling only to be rushed to the Central Regional Teaching Hospital in Cape Coast.
According to Dr. Nana Ama Barnes, their sugar levels were high and this explained why they were rushed to the hospital.
The free screening and counseling is one of the many projects of The Sugar Project conducted in the region to help people monitor their lifestyles for healthy living.
Over 800 residents of Moree attended to check their glucose level on March 4.
The first campaign was at Breman in the Central Region where over 200 people had access to the free screening provided by the team led by the host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Kojo Yankson.
So far, over 1000 people have gone through the process and have been counseled by Dr. Barnes to reform their eating lifestyles for their general health needs.
According to the OHSU Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center, starch and sugar are examples of carbohydrates which have the most significant impact on blood sugar.
OHSU estimated that a non-diabetic person should have less than 100 mg/dL after not eating (fasting) for at least 8 hours.
And it has to be less than 140 mg/dL 2 clear hours after one has finished eating.
Here in Ghana, statistics points to a clear danger, and this has been the passion of The Sugar Project with its screening and counseling sessions as one of its flagship programmes.
Since it was commenced in 2015 through the initiative of Joy FM and spearheaded by Kojo Yankson, the project has helped many Ghanaians to live right by giving them the power to choose the right lifestyle.
