A health specialist accused of fabricating stories to damage the reputation of the Ghana Health Service says she has received threatening phone calls from some officials within the service.
Yaa Bosomtwi who is also a Human rights activist alleges that the health service colluded with international researchers to inject 7500 women in the Upper East Region with potentially harmful contraceptives without their consent in an experiment.
The drugs which include Depo-Provera Injection have side effects such as cancer, increased risk of blood clots or stroke, and irregular menstrual bleeding.
The Ghana Health Service says it will launch a joint investigation with the Food and Drugs Board into the matter.
But even before the investigations gets underway Madam Bosomtwi tells Joy News she has received several threats because of her stance.
I have received threatening phone calls assuring me that they are going to in their words take me on,” she said.
She called for an independent investigator to conduct thorough investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, Lawyer for Madam Bosomtwi, Professor Ken Attafuah has been spelling out specific conditions they expect the GHS investigation to satisfy.
He however welcomes the decision to investigate the claims.
“The GHS is showing leadership; we will only add that the GHS considers our request to include on this investigative team, people from the GJA and the Ghana Bar Association to ensure greater transparency.
