Three children are reported dead at the Children’s Hospital (Princess Marie Hospital) in Accra between Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday July 21 due to the absence of Doctors.
Some parents and guardians of scores of sick children at the hospital told Citi News that the situation is worsening since more sick children are being brought to the hospital.
In an interview with Citi News, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Professor Irene Agyepong said the Doctors were probably having a review meeting, thus their absence at the hospital.
She said her outfit will have the Doctors change the schedule of their meeting so they don’t put the lives of the sick children at risk.
However, Dr. Eric Sefah, a doctor at the Children’s Hospital denied the allegations.
According to him, the three children may have died due to other reasons but not because they were abandoned by the Doctors.
He said the number of sick children who have turned up at the hospital outnumber the available doctors on duty.
Dr. Sefah added that the situation has been on-going for the last two months and appealed to the government to increase the workforce at the hospital explaining that only four doctors are on duty at the moment.
