With the country still basking in the euphoria created by the Black Stars' World Cup campaign, the Ghana Football Association is asking the country should extend the same support to the female U-20 side at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup starts Tuesday, July 13 with Ghana's Black Princesses getting off their debut campaign against the defending champions, US on July 14.
Though the women's game does not enjoy the same popularity like the men's competitions, President of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi says the football fever that has gripped the nation has to be sustained.
"The Black Stars enjoyed tremendous support which ensured that Ghana kept the African flag high in South Africa.
"But we have another opportunity to show the world the development of Ghana football, this time with the Black Princesses at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
"We hope the team would receive the same or even more support and do well. This is their first time at the World Cup but they stand the chance of doing well," the FA President said.
Ghana is paired in Group D together the United States, Switzerland and Korea Republic.
Making their debut at the World Cup, Ghana, who will be playing two of their group games in Dresden, will take on the USA on Wednesday, a day after the opening game.
Ghana's next game comes three days later when they face Korea Republic before lining up for Switzerland in the final group qualifier in Bochum on July 21.
The 16 teams at the competition are split into four groups of four, with the top two teams from each group going through to the quarter-finals.
