The Accra Diamond Lions Club of the Lions Club International has handed over renovated toilet facilities to improve sanitary conditions at the Children's ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The items worth ¢85 million also included a poly tank, 10 dual desk and 20 specially made mattresses and a renovated classroom.
Mrs. Hawa Haruna, President of the Club, who handed over the items to the Chief Psychiatrist of the hospital said the club as part of its presidential project and social commitment decided to help solve the needs of the less privileged in society.
She said the specialist school for the children at the hospital was also painted and provided with nets to prevent malaria attacks among the children, adding that a similar project had been undertaken at the Dzorwulu Special School.
Dr. Akwasi Osei, Chief Psychiatrist of the hospital said government alone could not bear the cost of caring for mental health patients, especially when mental health care was free and called on other benevolent organisations to come to the aid of the hospital.
