Ghana defender John Mensah is aiming for an injury-free season after a good run of form at the World Cup.
Prior to the World Cup, he had been struggling with injuries which restricted him to 16 league appearances for Sunderland whilst on loan from French side Lyon.
"I am resting now and want to get my batteries recharged for next season. I want to have an injury free season at the top level," he said.
Mensah, who captained Ghana to the quarter-finals at the World Cup now has to sort out his club future after spending the entire season on loan with the Black Cats.
Though he wants to play in the Premier League next season, Mensah admits Lyon would have to decide as he returns to the French side from his loan spell.
"If it depends on me I would prefer to stay in the Premier League but in football today there are many things involved.
"Lyon is my club so they have their say as well. The sad thing is I never gave my best to Lyon."
