President John Atta Mills and some Presidents of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) attending the 38th Ordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State in Cape Verde have resolved to suspend part of their summit underway to watch the Black Stars of Ghana play Uruguay.
The Black Stars of Ghana take on Uruguay in an epic quarter final clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in South Africa at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday July 2.
Ghana is the only African nation in the tournament after the other five representatives were eliminated in the first round of the tournament.
Most African Nations including the host Nation, South Africa, have thrown their unflinching support behind the Black Stars to reach the Semi Final.
Ghana is the third African Nation to reach the Quarter Final of the World Cup after Cameroon and Senegal in 1990 and 2002 respectively.
The Black Stars of Ghana are knocking on the doors of history to become the first African Nation to qualify for the Semi Finals of the FIFA World Cup should they beat Uruguay today.
According to Citi FM’s Presidential Correspondent, Richard Mensah who is in Cape Verde, President Mills and other ECOWAS head of States resolved to suspend their vigorous discussions in order to support the Black Stars.
“Cape Verde is one hour ahead of South Africa so they will schedule the time such that the various Presidents gathered here will join our President, Atta Mills to watch the match. I can tell you that the goodwill for Ghana among the various ECOWAS Heads of States gathered here is very massive and they are all hoping that Ghana will win the match against Uruguay”.
At the special ECOWAS-Brazil Summit to be held on Saturday July 03, 2010, President Mills will present a Paper on “Development of Private Sector Enterprises in West Africa”.
