Ghana’s world cup leading scorer Asamoah Gyan is hopeful to return from a minor injury he sustained in a training session on Monday, to face the Uruguayans in their quarter-final clash this Friday at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
Gyan who sat out of training on Tuesday returned to full training this morning and is confident he will be in a better condition by Friday to face the Uruguayans.
Kevin-Prince Boateng also returned to training after his injury in Ghana’s game against the USA where he scored his first ever goal for the Black Stars and is hoping to be fit for the match.
Kevin-Prince so far has been a fantastic replacement for Michael Essien who due to a knee injury he is recuperating from, could not make it to the world cup.
His performance so far in the Ghana set up has been tremendous and it will be a big blow if he does not play but the coach and the team doctor have assured Ghanaians and Africans, he will be ok for the game.
Right full back Hans Adu-Sarpei has handed Ghana a massive boost ahead of their match as he also started training today after the injury he sustained in the USA game last Saturday.
The team is expected to train this evening and will then move from their camp base in Rustenburg to Johannesburg tomorrow where they will be playing the Uruguayans at the soccer city stadium.
The playing body is optimistic they will set a new record after equaling that of Senegal and Cameroon as the only African countries to have gotten to the quarter finals at the world cup.
Black stars' win on Friday will secure them a ticket to the semi-finals of the ongoing World Cup in South Africa which will then go into the history books as the only African country to have gotten to the semi-finals since the inception of the World Cup in 1930.
