Youth and Sports Minister designate, Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, says he will take a critical look at the development of all sports in the country despite football being the passion of the nation.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports morning show, the Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo Constituency said he will not be a football minister but rather Youth and Sports Minister.
“I can assure Ghanaians that all sporting disciplines will receive equal attention under my tenure in other to contribute to their growth and winning of more international medals and competitions,” he said.
The former commentator urged corporate institutions to help sponsor the other sporting disciplines.
“I understand the frustration of the managers of the lesser known sports. But we can win more international medals if we pay attention to them. We will partner with various cooperate institutions to support all other sports,” he added.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuye will become the 8th man to lead the ministry under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is coming into the sector as a former amateur boxer and footballer, former broadcast journalist and has served in several sports administrative roles including the president for the Ghana Weightlifting Federation.
