The agent of Ghana’s World Cup star John Mensah insists the defender wants to return to Sunderland after spending last season on loan at the Stadium of Light.
Mensah excelled in Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Serbia in their opening game of the World Cup, leading to rumours that an unnamed French side have contacted parent club Lyon about a possible transfer.
The defender’s agent, however, insists the 27-year-old is only interested in a return to the Barclays Premier League with the Black Cats.
“Yes, there has been an offer for John from a club in France,” Mensah’s agent Fabien Pivateau told The Journal
“He has played very well in the World Cup and I think that people have noticed what a good player he is again.
“For John and for me, he wants to go back to Sunderland. He loves the people, he loves the atmosphere, he loves the manager and he loves the club. He feels at home at Sunderland.
“But I do not know what will happen and Lyon have other offers now. We will have to wait and see until after the World Cup.”
