Ghanaian Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Thursday launched a brief guide for civil society on oil and gas, which focuses on issues, challenges and prospects associated with the production of oil and gas in the country.
The 33-page booklet with a cover, which combines graphically the sky, sea and land, gives details on Ghana's natural resources, who get what - the direct returns of Ghana's share of the revenues, process for integrating oil and gas in the economy and how to turn oil revenue into lasting benefits for the people of Ghana.
It also contains formulas for minimising negative social, political and environmental consequences dotted with beautiful natural pictures of the daily life style of Ghanaians.
Dr Joe Oteng-Adjei, Minister of Energy, who launched the booklet, challenged social commentators, media and CSOs to scrutinize the contents "as it contains depth of information on the oil and gas industry".
The booklet was launched at the National Platform of Civil Society in Oil and Gas Summit organised in Accra to complement efforts of government in the development and implementation of the policy and legal framework for emerging petroleum industry and to ensure national consensus.
The summit discussed key technical and governance issues as they relate to the sustainable management of Ghana's oil wealth.
It was organised by the Civil Society platform on oil and gas in collaboration with Oxfam America and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
It was on the theme; "Ghana's Preparation for Oil and Gas Production: Consolidating citizen's Views for Sustainable Resources Management".
