With increasing pressure on subscribers’ disposable income, there are times when subscribers’ have insufficient or no credits to make emergency calls. It is against this background that mobile telephony operator Tigo has introduced a new product aimed at meeting subscribers emergency calls needs in such situations.
Christened SOS, the product allows Tigo to lend the network’s subscribers a minimum credit balance to use for Tigo to Tigo calls only when they are near zero-balance and need to make that very essential call. The credit is subtracted from subsequent reloads.
Tigo SOS is designed for prepaid subscribers only. There is no subscription for this product and to enjoy emergency credits, subscribers’ SIMs must be active. Moreover, subscribers must have less than or equal to 3Gp balance. Subscribers are entitled to Tigo SOS airtime of 15Gp when they have less than or equal to 3Gp balance to make emergency calls.
This credit balance is valid for two days in making Tigo to Tigo calls only. To activate this service, subscribers must type *188# and send. Upon paying for initially borrowed credit, subscribers can benefit from further Tigo SOS airtime. Tigo SOS airtime is non transferable.
This add-on complements the introduction on the market of talk time packages – SmarTalk, Tigo #1 and Xtreme all of which are aimed at incentivising the network’s loyal subscribers to remain on the network.
Speaking in Accra, Tigo Brand Manager, Enoch Vanderpuye, intimated that “in keeping with growing the network’s subscriber base, it is also essential that we meet the emergency calls needs of some of our subscribers when the need arises; hence the introduction of Tigo SOS – Credit when you need it most.” He stressed that now is the best time for members of the general public who are not yet part of the Tigo family to join the network that actually works by buying and activating a Tigo SIM in order to enjoy all the Tigo offers and services.
