Ghana would be keen at taking a giant stride towards the Round of 16 when the Black Stars cross paths with Australia’s Socceroos on Saturday, June 19 at the World Cup.
The Aussies have had the better of Ghana in previous encounters with the Black Stars having won once against four by their opponents with just one drawn game between them.
But Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac is primed to build on his side’s opening day win over Serbia as he keeps his sights just on the next game.
“For us this win is very important so we need to prepare well and concentrate well. Nothing is certain before the match or before the last whistle,” he told ww.ghanafa.org after his team’s open training session at the Mogwase Stadium on Wednesday.
“We need to be very focused and do our best in our next match to seal victory.”
Australia, who got off their campaign to an embarrassing 4-0 defeat by Germany will be aiming at redeeming themselves when they meet Ghana in the Group D clash at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.
Rajevac is aware that his opponents will be out fighting and says that is expected since the Australians are not out of the competition after just one poor result.
“For Australia, this is the last chance. So they would give their best. They are a very competitive nation and I am sure they would give off their best in the next match so we are ready for that.
“The Australian team is a very strong team. Their performance against Germany did not show the real picture. They can do much better; can run better so I expect them to be much better than that [performance against Germany]. The red card [Tim Cahill’s sending off] made it easier for Germany to finish them off but they would be strong this time,” he said.
Despite the absence of Cahill, one of Australia’s best players for the game on Saturday, Rajevac is still expecting a strong Socceroos performance.
“Cahill is an excellent player but of course they have Joshua Kennedy who did not play in the first match, Mark Breciano and maybe Harry Kewell would be fit for the match. So they would give everything and use what that they have and bring their best.”
