President of the Ghana Table Tennis Federation Mawuko Afadzinu is expecting a tough battle among finalists in this year’s National Top eight (8) event in Accra on Saturday 23rd January 2016.
Eight players from the male and female category have booked their place in the final round of the championship which will be held at the Accra stadium.
The annual championship which should have taken place late last year seeks to bring the top notch Tennis players across the country to compete to determine the best in each category.
“This is the top 8, our biggest event in the year, this is where all the top tennis players come together to compete and it is the only table tennis championship here that comes with an appearance fee,” said Mr Afadzinu
“This year we expect a good championship taking into consideration what happened the previous year, we do this to make our sport very attractive and mind you we have other programmes lined up this year.
“We are looking at a Coperate table tennis league and also the inter-schools table tennis competitions.
“Just as we want to develop the sport here we also look at winning medals at major international events.
Table Tennis just like the other federations is faced with the problem of funding. The Federation has had to sponsor some of their own programmes.
“Funding has been our major problem and I will like to use this opportunity to appeal to our friends in the coperate world to come and support this noble sport.”
