Derek Boateng has already enjoyed a great debut season in the Spanish La Liga with Getafe and as he prepares for the World Cup, the midfielder hopes he could be celebrating even more with the Black Stars.
The midfielder, who was voted Getafe’s best player in the just ended season’s campaign is yet to match his club form at the national level.
Going into his second consecutive World Cup after playing a part in Ghana’s round of 16 finish on their debut four years ago in Germany, Derek is hoping to make a great impact in the Black Stars campaign.
A good performance plus a Ghana World Cup success would certainly complete the 27 year-old player's hopes.
"It's been a wonderful year for me on both fronts - Club and Country,“ the Black Stars midfielder told www.ghanafa.org.
"It’s always important to first earn a place in the national team. The competition is always tough. Now is the time to give my country a lift. Everyone here wants to achieve something with the national team.
"I just hope that my club form would help me add something extra to the team [Black Stars].”
"I've had a good season and played with lots of confidence. It’s important to play with confidence and I just want to play at that same level or extra for the national team.
“I am looking forward to it [World Cup]. I want to do my best and be happy,“ he said.
Ghana open their Group D campaign against Serbia on June 13 before playing Australia and Germany.
