Firefighters trained to search for earthquake victims were called in to free a man whose ring had got stuck on his finger.
The specialist team was called in from more than 30 miles away to free James Bill, 42, from the £25 stainless steel ring.
Mr Bill, from Wolverhampton, thought it would be a quick job to cut off the ring given to him by 28-year-old girlfriend Sarah Maiden seven months ago.
He strolled to nearby Fallings Park fire station to seek help after his finger began to swell and throb, reports Metro.
Two hours and five broken saw blades later, they were no nearer removing the ring despite using ice packs, cold water and even a packet of frozen peas to reduce the swelling.
Firefighters called in the technical team, from Bickenhill, near Birmingham International Airport, where staff are trained to deal with major emergencies.
A crew rushed to the station on blue lights armed with a titanium blade which sawed through the ring in less than five minutes.
