President John Agyekum Kufuor has appointed Nana Effah Appenteng and Lieutenant General Seth Obeng (rtd) as his Special Advisors on African Union (AU) matters.
A press release signed by Mr Andrew Awuni, the Press Secretary, said the two would liaise with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Co-operation and NEPAD, to provide the necessary support in addressing issues pertaining to President Kufuor's Chairmanship of the AU.
Nana Appenteng, an accomplished Diplomat, is Ghana's immediate past Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) and represented the country on the UN Security Council from January 2006 to March 2007.
He also served as Minister-Counselor at Ghana Missions in Moscow, Rome and Washington D.C.
Lt. Gen. Obeng is the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces and served on several peacekeeping missions abroad, including Deputy Force Commander of ECOWAS Ceasefire Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) in Liberia from 1994 to 1999.
He was also the Force Commander of the UN Observer Mission in Angola (MONUA) and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNAMFIL)
