GHALCA G6 Preview: Kotoko vs Chelsea

Kumasi Asante Kotoko kickoff their G6 campaign against Berekum Chelsea hoping to translate their early pre season form into a tournament victory.

The Porcupine Warriors defeated Ashantigold a few weeks ago in the SWAG Cup before comfortably but controversially beating Jagodina of Serbia 5-0 in an international friendly last week.

This good form coupled with a wholesale of experienced new signings makes David Duncan’s  new look side favourites for the title.

The Reds can now boast two quality players in every position bringing out the competitiveness David Duncan had craved for.

This will come as a headache for the gaffer who must find the right team for every occasion as well as keeping all players happy.

Despite this, Duncan has set his sights solely on winning the tournament.

"We go into every tournament to win it. As I told you even if it is fun games and we are playing against the Media XI, we will still go with the intention to win. Any outing of Kotoko is an important match. It will be big news if you don’t get the results,” Duncan told the club’s website

The trio of Eric Ofori Antwi, Felix Annan and Ernest Sowah are able keepers who will walk straight into many teams but must contend for only one slot in the Kotoko set up.

New signings Edwin Tuffour Frimpong Bennet Ofori, Kwame Boateng, Halipha Sedogo, Richard Osei Agyemang will blend with old guards Eric Donkor, Obed Owusu, Dauda Mohammed, Jackson Owusu and Ahmed Adams in what will definitely be a new look Kotoko side.

Their opponents Berekum Chelsea have already had a taste of G6  action holding league champions Ashantigold to a goalless.

The Blues’ game with the Miners was evenly poised with both teams carving out chances without utilizing them.

Saddick Adams who has made a return to Ghana football was a constant threat to the Miners defence with his pace and power.

Safianu Awudu was adjudged man of the match against Ashantigold and should he maintain his form, he could be a handful for Kotoko on the day.

New Kotoko trio of Samuel Kyere, Richard Osei Agyemang and Bennet Ofori will be facing their former employers while Richard Oti of Berekum Chelsea faces Kotoko few months after leaving the Porcupines.
