Ghana International Airlines is still an entity, despite reports making the rounds that it has folded up.
The airline has not been able to maintain its regular schedules since the volcanic ash disruption to flights about four weeks ago creating a backlog of stranded passengers.
There was heavy police presence at the airline’s offices last Friday after an angry crowd of passengers who had gathered there began throwing stones at airline staff and causing damage to property, and demanding to know their fate.
Media reports say the airline has folded up and that the staff have been asked to go home until further notice.
But official sources tell Joy Business the staff were only asked to go home at the time for their own safety.
Meanwhile GIA has been unable to secure an aircraft from Astreaus for its operations because it has failed to pay the lease for sometime now.
Negotiations are however ongoing for some form of settlement.
