Ghana is today introducing a new denomination into its currency. The GHC2 note is to help ease pressure on the GHC1 and make transactions less cumbersome when it comes to change.
This will be after a short ceremony to outdoor the note at the premises of the Bank of Ghana.
Public Affairs Manager, Esi Hammond told Joy Business that the Governor of the Central Bank will be the first person to handle the very first note that goes into circulation.
A dummy of the new note unveiled last month has a portrait of Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on one side while the reverse depicts the old and new parliament house buildings to signify the country’s deepening democracy.
Governor Kwesi Amissah-Arthur says apart from the security features that have been significantly enhanced to make counterfeiting more difficult, a major concern for the visually impaired has also been addressed.
