Chief Executives of insurance companies who underwrite motor insurance have agreed to work towards July 1 as the new date to start charging the new insurance premiums. This was one of the agreements reached at a meeting on the issue on Tuesday. The company heads also agreed to work with the committee instituted by the insurance regulator, the National Insurance Commission to undertake the needed consultations with all interested parties before the new implementation date. The consultative committee which will have representation from the two main commercial transport unions GRPTU and GRTCC, Consumer Protection Agency and the Ghana Insurance Association was put in place by the NIC after the Transport Minister called for the suspension of the new motor insurance premium. The committee is expected to formally begin work after its inauguration next Tuesday. The insurance companies however expressed their displeasure with the manner in which implementation of their new rates were suspended. Source: Joy Business/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
