AshantiGold CEO Kudjoe Fianoo is unfazed with the tough draw handed the Ghana Premier League champions in next season CAF Champions League.
The Miners will begin the 2016 CAF Champions League campaign against Algerian side MO Bejaia at the Len Clay stadium in February.
The preliminary stage of the competition has often seen West African clubs face off before meeting the relatively tough northern Africa opponents but the draw held on Friday produced contrary pairings with Miners billed to face either Club African or A.S. Tanda in the 1/16th stage should they progress.
However, Fianoo, in an exclusive cat with Joy Sports hinted they are buoyed to give up required performances.
"I thought the balloting will follow the pattern it used be because the couple of times we have played in Africa, we tried our hands on west Africa sides before Northern Africa sides,” he told Joy Sports
“So I was a bit surprised, but that notwithstanding, having qualified for the CAF Champions league we are ready to face any opposition that comes our way. It's going to be a tall order."
"We haven't fared well anytime we meet clubs from North Africa, but there is a turning point in every endeavor and we think that this time we will slip through."
The Ghana Premier League is far from starting with the unsorted legal cases involving promoted and demoted clubs preventing the league board from issuing a start date.
These issues have raised concerns of Ashanti Gold being rusty as a result but Fianoo is confident necessary steps have been taken.
"We have lost some players, so we have made the right recruitment, and the club is deep into preseason training.”
"We will make sure by Valentine's day next year we are ready for the any opponent."
AshGold are making a return to the continent’s elite inter-clubs competition since 2008 where they reached the first qualifying round and got eliminated by JS Kabylie.
