Perfect blend, says Rajevac

A perfect blend of youth and experience according to Milovan Rajevac will be what his Ghana squad for the World Cup finals would look like. Ahead of Friday’s announcement of his provisional list for the tournament, Rajevac has been paying tribute to the array of talent who have helped Ghana qualify for a second World Cup appearance and also win silver at the recent African Nations Cup, a tournament which saw the nation miss six regular starters due to injury. Sitting calmly in his office on Wednesday afternoon, Rajevac explained that the development of the team has been fuelled by the introduction of youngsters, mostly graduated from the U-20 World Cup winning and his experienced bedrock members. “Our playing strength has been to maintain our tactical discipline and keeping the shape of the team together always,” Rajevac told www.ghanafa.org with a passionate voice. “Some youngsters proved at the U-20 World Cup and at the African Nations Cup that they were ready for the big stage. “It’s never easy making it to the senior level. It’s difficult but we have to be patient and see what happens. We would have more days to assemble so we can work with everyone.” Rajevac has always been convinced that his experienced players are key to aiding the transition of the youngsters and says that was evident in Angola - during the 2010 Nations Cup - where a handful of senior members of the Black Stars helped the fresh faces settle in well. “We needed some experienced players,” said Rajevac. “It’s always important to let everybody understand that they have to work for the squad, not just for themselves and this is where the big boys step up to help everyone stay focused. “I am very happy with their (experienced players) commitment and work. “But now we have to work more harder as each game would be tough.” Ghana would open their campaign at the World Cup against Serbia on June 13 before taking on Australia six days later then round up the group stage with a clash against Germany on June 23.
