The Micro Finance and Small Loan Center MASLOC, says certain pronouncements by political figures regarding its operations and political interference are some of the major challenges it has to grapple with.
According to officials most people who come for loans as a result, tend to think that the loans are handouts to party footsoldiers because of what the politicians tell them and therefore do not payback.
This has led to a high default rate of more than 90 percent, they reckon.
MASLOC Chief Executive Bertha Ansah Djan however tells Joy Business this will have to change.
Speaking on Joy FM’s business analysis programme Business Trends Bertha Ansah Djan further explained that a computerized database of borrowers has also been developed as one of the new strategies to make for easier tracking of clients.
“We are putting in place a software system,” she said, adding, “we will be able to know you by name and code and location. It makes it easier for the loan officer to locate you than just having limited information about you.”
