German international Jerome Boateng has revealed how Ghana’s impending World Cup game against Germany has kept the text messages flying between himself and his brother Kevin-Prince, who could be playing for the Black Stars.
Jerome, the Hamburg defender who is being courted by the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, looks set to play a big part for Germany in South Africa and is hoping he can get one over his big brother in Johannesburg on June 23.
“Ever since Germany and Ghana were drawn in the same group, Kevin and I have been sending each other messages. The texts have been flying. The handshake before kick-off is going to be a special moment, but after that he’s just another opponent. Family will count for nothing, and if I have to kick him, I will without even thinking.
“We’ve faced each other once before, when he was on loan at Borussia Dortmund near the end of last season. I was on the losing side that day, but I have told him I will have my revenge in Johannesburg.”
Kevin-Prince is awaiting confirmation of his switch from ex-Germany youth international to a fully fledged Ghanaian international. Proof of his father’s Ghanaian nationality, which has stalled the process, is now at Fifa headquarters in Zurich and the Portsmouth star can look forward to the campaign with Ghana in June.
It will, however, mean a split in loyalty for their Ghanaian father, who only started talking to Kevin recently and claims to have learnt of his switch earlier only from newspapers.
“I don’t know how dad’s going to work out who to support, but he is as excited as me and Kevin,” said Jerome.
