Ghana will send a support delegation of 2,600 people to South Africa for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
The delegation will be made of supporters and fans, politicians, the clergy, students, media and the general public and will provide maximum support towards ensuring a successful campaign of the Black Stars at the World Cup.
Akua Sena Dansua, Minister of Youth and Sports announced this during the launch of a fund-raising campaign in Accra yesterday.
She noted that since it is the aim of Government to ensure that as many people as possible make the trip to cheer on the Stars to make a positive impact; the World Cup Committee has launched the fund-raising campaign to raise enough financial resources towards the successful execution of the project.
The Minister said Government will be responsible for the airfare, accommodation, feeding and the acquisition of match tickets for the members of the supporting team.
The fund-raising campaign she said is to relieve the Government of the entire financial burden for the smooth execution of the plan.
The Stars are drawn in Group D alongside Australia, Germany and Serbia at the World Cup and will kick off their campaign at the Group Stage against Serbia at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria then engage Australia six days later at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg before wrapping up against Germany on June 23 at the Soccer City in Johannesburg.
