Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantekyi is facing accusations of abuse of incumbency as the jostling for the most powerful position kicks in.
Election to the powerful executive committee of the GFA and the presidency will be in 2011 but one of the men soundly thrashed by Nyantekyie at the polls five years ago insist the sitting president has already set his campaign in motion after he rounded up a tour of regions this week.
The tour, ostensibly to learn at first hand the state of football in the regions is in the eyes of Vincent Odotei, chief executive of King Faisal Football Club an attempt by Nyantekyi to sell himself well ahead of the next elections.
"I have no illusions about the fact that the FA president is on a mission to make himself visible and prepare the grounds for his elections when nominations open early next year," Odotei said.
"Sincerely Nyantekyi has not uttered a word about his future with regards to his re-election, but his action smacks of an abuse of incumbency and should not be encouraged," he added.
Odotei himself has not indicated whether he will challenge the GFA president after he got zero votes in the last elections. But he wants the politics of football to wait till after the World Cup.
The elections originally due for this year was pushed back to 2011 to enable the GFA concentrate on Ghana's 2010 World Cup campaign.
