That the El Clasico was live on Multi TV is not the only story soccer fans in Accra and Kumasi have to tell! The fact that the Barca vrs Real show down Part II lived up to its billing is another side of the story; but it was the BIG SCREEN EXPERIENCE, promised and delivered by Multi TV (in collaboration with its partners and sponsors) that spiced up the continuing saga of the tale of two cities: Catalonia and Madrid!
You still can’t tell which was the bigger attraction: the opportunity to watch the El Clasico on the crystal clear Multi TV, or the opportunity to watch it on the BIG SCREENS in six main locations in Accra and Kumasi, as well as numerous other locations scattered all over the country.
In Accra, the Silverbird Cinema at the Accra Mall, played host to the El Clasico BIG SCREEN EXPERIENCE on Multi TV. The crowd that thronged the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout venue belied the fact that it was a strictly-by-invitation viewing! With every seat in the Siverbird Cinema accounted for, organisers had no choice than to allow a number of ecstatic gatecrashers in to squat gratefully in the aisles, oblivious of the relative discomfort!
Tema was not left out of the El Clasico funfair! De-Vault Gardens, a cosy watering hole tucked away in Community 5, partnered Adom FM in perhaps the biggest crowed-puller in Tema over the weekend: the El Clasico BIG SREEN EXPERIENCE on Multi TV! The live commentary on Asempa FM made the El Clasico nothing short of a cliff-hanger!
Soccer fans in Kumasi had their share of the fun courtesy of Luv FM and Nhyira FM at no less than 4 viewing locations: the Indece Hall at KNUST, Clark’s Place at Danyame, Fourth Gardens at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeant’s Mess at Ridge, and the Jubilee Park.
The BIG SCREEN EXPERIENCE, which attracted sponsorship from VODAFONE, was organised in partnership with Cowbell and the Silverbird Cinema, and supported by Kick Energy Drink, Blue Ice Roll-on and Frosty Jack’s. At the end of the day, Barca and Madrid.
While the 2-0 Barca triumph was reflective of the proceedings on the pitch in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in far away Madrid, the common denominator after the excitement of the live match at all the BIG SCREEN locations here in Ghana, was the Oliver Twist syndrome: the call for more of the BIG SCREEN EXPERIENCE by Multi TV! It was the only thing that the fans of the two clubs agreed on, and perhaps that was what kept the worst of the post-match war of words at bay!
In an interview after the match, a representative of Multi TV present at the Silverbird, posited that the event was part of a series in the pipeline for Ghanaian soccer fans who have been following the FANTASTIC 4 leagues (Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, German Bundesliga and the French Ligue 1)and the EUROPA League on Multi TV. He said Multi TV’s objective is to give as many soccer fans as possible, the opportunity to regularly watch their idol clubs and players in the FANTASTIC 4 leagues and the EUROPA League for the rest of the season and beyond, on Multi TV.
