Officials of the Guinea Worm Eradication Programme in the Northern Region say they have recorded huge gains in their drive to eradicate the disease from the Region.
The number of cases has dropped to three for the first two months of this year compared with 95 cases recorded for the same period in last year.
Northern Regional Director of the Guinea Worm Eradication Programme Dr. Gilbert Derry says massive education is the main driving force behind the decline in the prevalence of the disease.
Almost a decade ago, Guinea worm was completely eradicated from the country.
However, the disease emerged again in the year 2002.
Officials of the Guinea Worm Eradication Programme say if the current level of decline is maintained, the disease will be completely eradicated.
