Francesco Totti remains the talisman that AS Roma and coach Rudi Garcia can rely on after the veteran notched up his 300th goal for the club against Sassuolo in a 2-2 draw on Sunday.
Totti, who turns 39 next week, helped the Giallorossi twice come from behind by scoring the first-half equaliser at the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma's official website reported that 21 years and 16 days separate his first -- on Sept. 4, 1994 -- and his last goals for Roma. The one-club man has now scored 300 goals in 745 appearances -- an "incredible number", according to Garcia.
"Totti? 300 is an incredible number. We were waiting for it, but we'd all have preferred to celebrate a win," Garcia said.
"Mohamed Salah scored a great goal, like Totti. It's just a shame their goals weren't enough to get us the win."
Roma are fourth on the Serie A table, four points behind leaders Inter Milan after four games.
Having scored in all of his 21 seasons in Serie A, Totti is the longest-serving and highest-scoring player in Roma history.
The club's iconic No.10 scored his first goal wearing the No. 9 shirt, in a 1-1 draw with Foggia, as a 17-year-old, filling in for missing Argentine striker Abel Balbo.
Four years later, Totti was given the captain's armband and hit double figures in a season for the first time, with 13 goals in 1997-98.
With Fabio Capello in charge, Totti reached the half-century mark when his penalty handed Roma a 1-0 win over Newcastle United in the UEFA Cup.
Goal number 100 was a free kick in the 2002-03 Coppa Italia final, giving Roma the lead before AC Milan came back to win 4-1.
He hit 200 goals in 2008 in the 1-1 draw against Inter Milan at the San Siro Stadium where Philippe Mexes received two yellow cards in quick succession.
In league games only, Totti has 244 goals in 590 appearances. He scored nine times in 58 appearances for Italy.
A sign of his longevity in Italian domestic football is that 2016 will mark the 10 year anniversary since he made his last international appearance for the Azzuri.
Totti has won just one Serie A crown -- in 2000-01 -- but has been a runner-up on eight occasions, most recently last season.
