Nigeria forward Victor Moses got his season-long loan deal at West Ham off to an exciting start after helping the club to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the English Premier League on Monday night.
The 24-year-old star was playing only his first game of the season and lasted 87 minutes of the tie, showing industry, plenty of hunger and his trademark guile.
It was clear he wanted to have a memorable game, probably to show his floundering parent club Chelsea what they would miss and he came close to scoring on a few occasions.
His first real opportunity was in the 43rd minute when he was played through by Frenchman Dmitri Payet, scorer of both Hammers goals, but Moses' first touch and final ball let him down.
Three minutes after the break he came even closer after a brilliant run that saw him rip the Newcastle defence apart before being denied by the woodwork. Payet was on hand to score his second from the rebound.
He exited three minutes from time to a standing ovation.
Senegal duo - midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate and striker Diafra Sakho - also impressed for West Ham, both playing the entire game.
