A 25-man Kumasi Asante Kotoko contingent will today February 10, 2010 emplane a Virgin Nigeria aircraft to Senegal to begin this year’s Africa Champions League competition.
The two-time Africa Champions are Ghana’s sole representatives in the lucrative competition and they open their accounts in the tournament by engaging Senegalese side AS Linguer this weekend.
Kotoko’s delegation is made up of 18 players, three management members, three technical staff and one FA member who will be the leader of the delegation.
Kotoko, uncharacteristically is sending a meager delegation due to the weak financial situation of the club, DAILY GUIDE SPORTS has been informed.
The Porcupine Warriors have since last Monday switched their camp base from Kumasi to Tema ahead of the crunch tie which is a preliminary stage of the Africa Champions league.
Kotoko’s decision to pitch camp in the harbour city of Tema where they would train on artificial turf, DAILY GUIDE SPORTS learnt, is based on information reaching them that they would play on same in Senegal.
Despite conquering Africa twice, Kotoko whose name once sent chills down the spine of every African side, has for the past decade struggled to find their feet in the continental competition.
However hopes in Kumasi this time are high as fans of the Red Army are expecting their idol club to at least qualify and participate in the lucrative group stages of the competition.
