Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, has called on assembly members to contribute meaningfully towards the assembly’s effort in curbing illegal chainsaw business in the district.
He noted that the increasing spate of illegal timber felling and the resultant violent reactions between suspects and security personnel at check-points had been a major source of worry to the assembly.
Mr Ofori-Donkor, who was addressing the second ordinary meeting of the assembly at Nkawie on Wednesday, commended security personnel for their excellence performance for the past four months regarding patrols and other security measures to clamp down on indiscipline in the district.
He announced that allocation of 14 lockable stores built at Atwima-Koforidua under the District Town Four Project would soon be done.
On the other hand, 35 lockable stores built under the same project at Abuakwa had been affected by the dual carriage road which is to be constructed from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital roundabout to Abuakwa, the DCE added.
Mr Ofori-Donkor further announced that the Department of Urban Roads was to construct the same quality stores for a replacement at a convenient place before they could demolish the existing ones.
The DCE said the assembly had received an amount of ¢660 million under the HIPC Fund and awarded five projects under the fund.
These included a 10-unit KVIP at Nkorang, three-unit classroom, office and store each at Barekese, Adagya, Esaso and Abira.
On health, Mr Ofori-Donkor said two maternity blocks had been provided for Barekese and Asuofua health centres under the Town Four Project while the Community-Based Rural Development Project was also providing a maternity block for Abuakwa Health Centre.
He said obnoxious acts like intimidating teachers as well as defecating in classrooms as happened in some communities in the district should cease since those found culpable would not be spared.
