The First Capital Plus Premier League returns for last two rounds of matches starting this weekend.

Earlier in the week, the Disciplinary Committee of the Football Association upheld a protest by Hearts of Oak against rivals Asante Kotoko. Hearts claimed that Kotoko’s Obed Owusu was unqualified to play the match day 25 game since he had accumulated three yellow cards and had not served the needed one game ban.

Three points and three goals were thus rewarded to Hearts from Kotoko’s total and a further three points deducted to serve as punishment.

Despite the drama, match day 29 will go ahead. All the games will be played simultaneously.

Hasaacas v Asante Kotoko
Despite disagreement with the decision of the Disciplinary Committee, Asante Kotoko will go ahead to play their last two games.

Concerns had been raised that the club could seek an injunction to halt or boycott the rest of the games.

Kotoko will travel to southwestern Ghana to play Hasaacas. They will be heading into the match to prove their worth and show that they indeed can survive despite adversities. So quickly, the Sekondi Stadium has been thrown into the spotlight to see if indeed the Porcupines will emerge warriors and not be dragged out of the top division.

Kotoko’s record would have been four wins and one draw in their last five games but that has changed very to become three victories.

Ashanti Gold v WAFA
The league could be won this Sunday at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

That is if the Miners can win this game against visiting WAFA. This match may have been overshadowed by that of Hasaacas and Kotoko, but it does not remove its importance.

A win will hand the title to Bashir Hayford and his boys with a game to spare just as Bashir had promised. Experience will most likely work in favour for AshGold against the young squad from Sogakope, who are players from the club’s football academy system.

Hearts of Oak v Berekum Chelsea
The tides do indeed change and they can change very fast.

While wallowing at the second-to-last position, Hearts filed a protest against rivals Asante Kotoko, won, and are now seventh on the league log. Amazing.

The Phobians need just a point now to reach the 40 points needed to beat the much dreaded relegation. Chelsea’s journey to Accra is pretty cut out for them.

Nothing big is at stake.

They had a real chance to win the title but failed to live up to the occasion. Although they moved one place up to third during the week after the DC ruling, they are totally out of contention for the title.

B.A United v Liberty Professionals

Liberty Professionals have benefited from the point deductions meted to the Porcupines.

They have moved one place above their last position at the end of the last match day. The Dansoman side travel to face already doomed B.A United and if they play just a little bit better, they should be able to knock the home team over to capture the three maximum points.

In their last game against Asante Kotoko, United gave the defending champions a scare by drawing two goals back in their 4-2 defeat. They just might want to console their home in the last stretch of the league.

Heart of Lions v Great Olympics

Olympics have miraculously managed to lift themselves out of the relegation zone. Currently 12th on the log and needing only three points to reach that 40 point safety net, they understand how being relegated would be disaster for the club.

Over the years they have been in and out consistently but will want to stay this time round. Hosts Hearts of Lions are in a similar situation and also need those three points to get to that safety net.

Last year’s second placec team has struggled this season to stay on top of the league. They are in real danger of being relegated and will want to reverse the tide of this dramatic fall from grace episode in the club’s history.

Inter Allies v Bechem United

Inter Allies have been one of the surprise packages this season.

Built around relatively young players, they have played their way all the way to the summit of the league under the direction of the experienced coach Paa Kwesi Fabin.

They will host a struggling Bechem United at the Tema Stadium. Bechem are one of the teams Joy Sports has predicted to go down and out this season and with Allies’ strong record at home, it is very unlikely that Bechem will get those much needed survival points.

Wa All Stars v Medeama SC

All Stars need just two more points to ensure that they would stay in the league.

The club had some shaky times especially in the second half of the league. A very formidable side in the top four in the past few weeks, they have now dropped to about six places below their last position to 10th.

All Stars will host Medeama who are fresh from their FA Cup victory over Asante Kotoko last Sunday. A confident and motivated Medeama will want to finish the season on a high note. The once formidable Wa Park is now easy prey for determined teams and the visitors will want to steal those three points all the way back to their base in Tarkwa.

Aduana Stars v Edubiase FC

Aduana Stars will have to forget dreams of winning the title this time round. They have failed to take up those critical chances when they needed to, to pile up the pressure on league leaders AshGold.

Who wins the title will no longer be determined by them but by AshGold itself.

Mathematically, they do still have the chance to win the title, that is if they win this game against struggling Edubiase and AshGold doesn’t.

Edubiase will work very hard to try to get that one point needed to reach the safety net this weekend from Aduana Stars who come into this game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Lions on matchday 28.
