National Prayer Day: Prez seeks support of clergy

President J.E.A. Mills Friday sought the support of the clergy to make the national prayer day an annual affair. He said every prosperous nation the world over had a spiritual foundation, stressing that “the spiritual foundation is more important than the superstructure". The President said this when he invited members of the Council of Christian Churches to the Castle, Osu, to seek their support to make the national prayer day an annual affair, saying, "I invite you to appraise you and seek your support." He called on Ghanaians to acknowledge God for the gains being made by the country, particularly in the political field, saying that "if there are benefits currently being derived it is the wish of God". He said the programme would be national in character, adding, "My humble plea is for you to take ownership of this programme and let us thank God for what he has done for us." Dr Nii Amo-Darko, the Chairman of the planning committee, announced that this year's national prayer and thanksgiving service had been slated for Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Independence Square. He said, however, that a week-long fasting and prayers had been declared from March 7, to 14, 2010 at the various religious denominations. Prayers were said for the President, the three arms of the state, the media and the general public. Source: Daily Graphic/Ghana
