The Member of Parliament for Bawku in the Upper East Region believes the yet to be approved Minister of Interior would be able to build bridges between the feuding factions in Bawku.
Adamu Dramani Sakande told Joy News Martin Amidu has fostered good relations between the Mamprusis and the Kusasis in the past, and hoped that will engender trust between the two parties.
The two ethnic groups have been involved in bloody clashes over the years claiming innocent lives and reducing landed properties into ashes.
The conflicts somewhat degenerated in the year 2009 with concerns being raised over the neutrality of the outgoing Interior Minister Cletus Avoka, a concern he was quick to rubbish.
The MP was and has been critical of Cletus Avoka, largely because he (Avoka) has been counsel for one of the factions in previous cases involving the two ethnic groups.
Adamu Dramani also lauded the appointment of Martin Hamidu in a recent presidential reshuffle and urged him to create a forum for dialogue between the two feuding factions.
He admonished the security personnel to be impartial in dealing with the volatile issue in Bawku, insisting crime is a crime and must be punished, irrespective of political and or ethnic affiliation.
He however chided the security personnel and the government for what he says is the lack of political will in dealing with the issue of guerrilla training camp in Bawku.
The Observer Newspaper late last year published pictures of some youth in Bawku in a training camp, wielding sophisticated weapons.
Even though the security personnel condemned the existence of such a training camp, they have also questioned the period under which those pictures were taken.
According to Adamu Sakande, one of the people identified in the pictures was arrested in Bawku, brought down to Accra but later released.
He mentioned one Robert Ayipa who he identified in the picture and accused of being the guerrilla trainer.
He alleged Ayipa is comfortably working in National security Co-ordinator's office.
Mr Sakande said, “those weapons used in the training camp are still there” he warned, adding a committee must be set up to investigate the matter and put the matter to rest.
