B.A United are demanding the exclusion of defender Patrick Asmah from Ghana’s squad for the 2015 All-Africa Games.
The left-back according to the club, has gone AWOL since his return from national team duty with the Ghana Under-20 team at this year’s Fifa World Cup in New Zealand a couple of months back only to resurface in the Black Meteors camp.
B.A United, whose relegation status from Ghana's elite division has been confirmed, are taken aback by the FA’s decision to continue to engage Asmah.
The club say they placed him on indefinite suspension.
“Patrick Asmah is our player; he has a contract with us,” club Chief Executive Officer Yaw Frimpong said to Angel FM.
“He went to the U20 championship in the name of the club but has since failed to return to the club so we needed to apply the law by writing to the FA that he has been suspended and should not be given any call up to any of the national teams.
“If a player has been suspended why should be given a call up to the Under-23 team knowing very well that we have officially written letter to you [Ghana FA] with regards to his suspension from the club,” he queried.
Asmah together with WAFA’s Samuel Tetteh are two players from the Under-20 team who have been drafted into the Black Meteors squad as Ghana seeks to defend the Gold medal won at Maputo 2011.</p>
