The Public Relations Officer to the Ashanti Regional Minister has incurred the wrath of some journalists in Kumasi.
The PRO, Sebastian Odoom, is alleged to have pocketed money earmarked for distribution to journalists who attended a soiree at the residence of the regional minister.
Listowel Bukarsom, one of the aggrieved journalists, related that out of GH¢1,900 given to the PRO to be distributed among 37 journalists, very little went to them.
He recounted how a senior journalist had been awe-struck after receiving only GH¢20 for transport.
“The 37 journalists…were not satisfied…so the assumption was that the PRO did not do a fair distribution of the money,” another journalist, Francis Dodovi said.
Mr Odoom has however denied pocketing any money. He related that over 180 journalists turned up for the programme although he had invited only 37, thus amounts for the invited guest had to be slashed to cater for all who were present.
The news comes days after the regional minister ruffled a few feathers with his comment admonishing party faithful to “slap” opponents who make derogatory remarks against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Kofi …..has since apologized and has asked for forgiveness but the latest from his communication outfit seems to have angered the people who had been addressed on various issues including the minister’s commitment to ensuring freedom of speech.
