Kwabena Yeboah has advised Ghana’s most glamorous clubs Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko to open up and attract investors.
Both clubs are struggling on and off the pitch mainly due to poor management practices, something which has been happening for years.
For Kotoko, defending their Premier League title looks almost impossible as they lie 11th with 32 points. And that's with six games to end this season. Their rivals, Hearts, aren't any better, if their 29 point-haul is anything to go by.
“Until the management structure of these two teams change, they need money to run these teams if they want to make any progress in Ghana and on the continent,” said the veteran sports broadcaster.
Their problems for many is not just on the pitch but a plethora of off-field issues have contributed to a poor stream of results in the second half of the season.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Yeboah noted that the only way out for the two giants is to allow an influx of investors.
Hearts of Oak, under the leadership of Togbe Afede XIV (below, pictured) have seen a lot of cash invested but several other factors are giving the club poor returns on the field.
“How did TP Mazembe start dominating their domestic league as well as Africa, when Englebert (now TP Mazembe) was on the verge of collapse? Moise Katumbe came around and injected heavy doses of monies into the team," he noted.
“Consistently, [TP Mazembe] are in Africa and are doing very well. When you talk about Kotoko and Hearts they always tell you these are traditional teams so we do not allow outsiders to hold the team in terms of resources. It is a huge mistake."
“I do not think they are more traditional than Manchester United, Liverpool and among others. These teams, when it became necessary, decided to give the club to outsiders to run it.
"The fans do not care who really runs the team but looking at good results that will always make them happy."
