IN Network Ghana has presented a cheque of US$6,000 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre on behalf of Ama Kyerewa Arthur, a four-year-old hole in heart girl.
Her condition is known in medical terms as ventricular Septal defect.
Ama also has one of her heart valves severely incompetent and requires an open heart surgery to enable her heart function properly.
The amount donated will cater for the cost of further investigations, anaesthesia, surgery, intensive care and boarding for a maximum period of three weeks.
Ama's heart condition was discovered only three months after birth and she has since been on medication. This has made her unable to do any form of activity for a long period; she can't walk, sit or even play for a long time as she easily gets tired and pants for breath. She is also unable to eat and sleep properly at night because she becomes so restless after lying for a while.
The Executive Director of IN Network Ghana, Rev. Walter Pimpong, who presented the cheque said, the organization came to Ama's aid because "it is our social responsibility to help some of these children who are underprivileged'. He also noted that this was not the first time his organization had come to the aid of underprivileged children, but Ama's case was special because "a girl at her age should have a bright future".
Receiving the cheque, Dr. Serebour, a heart surgeon of the Center said he was happy that IN Network Ghana had come to the aid of the little girl. "It is a wonderful present not only to Ama, but the Center as a whole”, he noted. He appealed to the general public to donate support the Ghana Heart Foundation in any way they can, explaining "if it's even the cost of a bottle of coke, we will greatly appreciate it".
Ama's parents were full of joy and thanked IN Network Ghana for the kind gesture and prayed God's blessings for the NGO.
