The Inspector General of Police, Paul Quaye, has directed all regional commanders to undertake head count of all residents in police barracks to weed out squatters.
DSP Kwesi Ofori, the Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service, told Joy News the directive by the IGP is to ensure that only police officers occupy the flats.
He noted that some personnel have vacated their rooms and given them to their relatives, depriving legitimate personnel from getting accommodation.
DSP Kwesi Ofori said the directive also affect those who sleep in verandas and open places at the barracks.
He said station officers who flout the directive would be sanctioned.
"That goes to suggest that regional commanders, unit commanders, divisional, district and station officers will carry it out to the letter, and that perchers and illegal occupants would be ejected to enable rightful persons to occupy them."
