Matchday 22 of the league came off on Saturday and Sunday across Ghana. There were upsets and sensational results.
The #JoySports team brought commentary from the Accra Sports Stadium, Carl Reindorf Park, Agyemang Badu Park and the Baba Yara Stadium.
Kotoko 0-3 Chelsea
Chelsea had not won in 33 away games before Sunday - a bleak streak stretching to March 3, 2013.
This was Kotoko’s second loss in less than a week as they were beaten 2-1 in midweek against Dunkwa United in the Elite Cup competition. Berekum Chelsea also ended a run of three winless games in away matches in the last two seasons after beating Kotoko 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Forward Kofi Owusu took his goal tally to 10 as he grabbed a brace for Chelsea before Asiwome Fumador gave the away side their third goal of the day.
Kotoko were hoping to bounce back to winning ways after making it to the finals of the MTN FA Cup but Chelsea had other ideas as they handed the reigning league champions their seventh defeat of the season.
Chelsea are now four points away from catching up with league leaders Ashantigold while Kotoko are 10th on the table with 29 points out of 22 matches played this season.
Olympics 2-1 Bechem
Great Olympics' Kwame Boateng' sealed the victory for his side as they claimed a 2-1 victory over Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
Godwin Attram put Olympics ahead in the 5th minute to send the 550 home fans present at the 40,000 capacity seater stadium into happy mood.
But Bechem United's Issah Adamu level the scoring for the visitors just a minute into the second half.
Late drama ensued when Olympics midfielder Francis Mantey was fouled inside the box and referee Ali Alhassan pointed to the spot.
Attacker Kwame Boateng (pictured, above) stepped up and dispatched the ball into the net deep into stoppage-time.
The victory has enhanced Olympics survival chances as they have built their points to 25 points.
BA Utd 0-2 Inter Allies
A goal in each half handed Inter Allies a 2-0 away win over bottom-placed B.A United on Saturday.
The match day 22 fixture was supposed to be played at the Sunyani Coronation Park but was honoured in Accra due to United’s one match home ban by the Ghana FA Disciplinary Committee. Ropapa Mensah opened the scoring just in the opening minute when he slammed home a tailored cross from a corner sent from the left with his right foot.
Paa Kwesi Fabin’s boys went on to take control of the counter but failed to produce further goals with the first half ending 0-1 for the ‘Eleven Is To One’ side. Second half resumes and Emmanuel Nettey would also get his goal within three minutes of restart.
Ropapa Mensah had made an impressive run through the defence but saw his shot got blocked - a lurking Nettey was however available to tap in from close range to help Inter Allies secure a double win over B.A United in the league this season.
The result leaves BA United still bottom with 17 points while Inter Allies have moved up to third on the League log. In the other Saturday fixture, Wa All Stars travelled to hold Sekondi Hasaacas in a one all drawn game at the Essipong Stadium.
Hasaacas 1-1 Wa All Stars
Wa All Stars completely outplayed Sekondi Hasaacas in a 1-1 draw at the Sekondi stadium in Saturday's Week 22 fixture.
Hasaacas took an early lead in the 4th minute from the penalty kick converted by left back Augustine Arhinful after striker Samuel Afful was impeded by goalkeeper Richard Ofori.
Midfielder Joseph Mugri on two separate occasions made crucial interception and block with his timely track backs to deny Emmanuel Ocran from scoring for Wa All Stars.
The giants of the west also clearly missed their head coach Yusif Basigi who is leading the Black Queens to next year's Olympic Games qualifiers against Cameroon in Yaounde. The manner his team struggled at home was unbelievable despite the determination of his assistant Jojo Ampah to consolidate their recent good run.
The visitors pulled parity with three minutes to recess when left back Joshua Otoo roofed in from an indirect free kick in the penalty box.
Lions 2-1 AshGold
League leaders Ashantigold have seen their lead at the top cut to four, after they lost 2-1 to Kpando Heart of Lions in their First Capital Plus Premier League match week 22 played at the Kpando Park.
Lions returned to their favorite home grounds after serving a one match home ban for crowd violence, and were looking to appease their fans with a good win. Five minutes into the game, Lions shot into the lead as Hudu Yakubu grabbed the first goal, before Tanko Mohammed added the second.
Ashgold grabbed a consolation in the second half through Yakubu Mohammed. The win for Lions pushes them to the 13th position on the league table with Ashgold still leading the league table with 40 points.
Edubiase 2-0 WAFA
New Edubiase put up one of their best performances so far in the First Capital Plus Premier League as they beat the West African Football Academy 2-0 at the Len Clay stadium.
Nuhu Fuseini scored the first goal before Bernard Ofori added the second of the day to ensure that Edubiase grabbed all three points against a well drilled WAFA side.
The win pushed Edubiase to the 12 position on the league table with WAFA pushed down to the 5th position. In other matches, Liberty Professionals drew goalless with SC Medeama at the Karl Reindolf park in Dansoman.
Liberty, by virtue of the draw, now occupy the eighth position on the league table with Medeama currently ninth position.
Aduana 1-0 Hearts
Hearts of Oak have gone six matches without a win in all competitions as they lost 1-0 to Aduana Stars.
Hearts were looking to bounce back from two defeats in the past seven days against Medeama (MTN FA Cup semifinal) and Ebusua Dwarfs (Elite Cup). But they found the might of Aduana Stars too much to handle, especially in the first half.
The Phobians started the game strongly and managed to win a couple of free kicks in the first few minutes of the game, but poor shooting on the part of the forwards did not help their course.
Richard Arhin broke the deadlock in the first half and that goal turned out to be the match winner, though the Phobians pilled pressure on the hosts in search for the equalizer. The win takes Aduana Stars to the 3rd position on the league table, with Hearts of Oak dropping to the 14th position.
The breakdown
