The Volta Regional Police Command has initiated a self-help project to build a clinic estimated at 20,000 Ghana cedis to serve its personnel and victims of domestic violence.
The Regional Police Commander, Mr David Ampah-Benin, disclosed this when the Stanbic Bank presented a cheque for 1,000 Ghana cedis towards the painting of a Syndicate Room built at the Ho Police Training School through self-help.
The Syndicate Room has a capacity for 250 students.
Mr Ampah-Benin said many victims of domestic violence referred to health facilities by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) did not report back to the Unit with medical reports, citing their inability to pay the fees charged for the medical examinations.
He thanked the Management of Stanbic Bank for responding to the Police's request for assistance and urged other corporate bodies and philanthropists to help improve the physical conditions in which the Police worked.
Mr Peter Atsu Gakpey, Ho Branch Manager of Stanbic Bank, who presented the cheque, noted the Bank regarded the Police as an important ally to the success of its operations and, therefore, was ready to help it when called upon.
"The Police is indeed part of us and need to be helped," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Credit Department of Stanbic Bank has presented assorted clothes, bags of rice and maize, cartons of mackerel, soft drinks, cooking oil, and soap to cured lepers of the Ho Leprosarium.
Mr Bernard Gyebi, Head of the Credit Department, who presented the items to community leaders, said it was to underscore their special relationship as adopters of that community.
He said personnel of the Department would pay frequent visits to the community and assured them of their support.
