A newly installed chief for Gomoa Ankamu near Apam in the Central Region has banned cursing, quarreling and gossiping as part of measures to maintain peace in the town.
Anyone found guilty of quarreling and gossiping would be made to provide two bags of cement for on-going projects while a curse would attract a fine of two bags of cement, a ram and drinks to revoke the curse.
Nana Ankamu Otabil IX, known in private life as Dr Kofi Nyamekye Pitsil Brace, a Veterinary Doctor based in Finland who announced the ban at his outdooring at Ankamu also banned children of school going age from selling or hawking and warned of severe sanctions against parents of children who would defy the ban.
The new chief succeeds his uncle, Nana Ankamu Otabil VIII, who died about two years ago.
Nana Ankamu Otabil said the town needs a lot of cement for its development projects and "Those who do not want to live in peace with their neighbours will be made to provide them.”
The Chief who is also the Ankobeahene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area mentioned provision of educational facilities including a library and establishment of a police station as his priority and appealed for support.
Nana Otabil announced plans to establish a micro-credit scheme to encourage his people to cultivate the habit of saving and also to generate funds to support their businesses.
Nana Kweku Dadzie II, Obaatan of Ankamu and Apagyahene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, appealed to the new chief to bring his experience to bear on the development of the town.
Nana Dadzie, who was the Chief of Staff during the NDC Administration, called for cooperation and support for the new chief and reminded them that development did not rest on one person.
Mr Kwasi Naatei, an employee of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, was outdoored as Gyasehene of Gomoa Ankamu under the stool name Nana Kwaw Bortsi I.
