The anti-human trafficking unit of the Ghana Police Service will soon see some expansion.
The unit, which investigates criminal activities related to human trafficking and smuggling, hopes the expansion would give it a greater presence across the country.
Many Ghanaians especially women have become victims of trafficking and smuggling to countries in the West Africa sub-region as well as Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Head of the anti-human trafficking unit, DSP Patience Quaye, believes the regional expansion can keep track of those seeking to perpetuate such crime.
The unit opened its Western Regional office two weeks ago and other regions without offices will soon have theirs, DSP Patience Quaye said.
She added that the unit hopes to embark on an educational campaign as well as collaborate with the other security agencies such as the Military and the Customs Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS) to be able to crack down on human traffickers.
Human trafficking figures have reached astonishing figures, necessitating the addition of the unit to the police service.
