A strike by biomedical scientists at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has left many patients stranded and needing care.
The workers say the strike is to register their displeasure at management’s failure to give them representation in the hospital’s administration.
They say this has led to a situation where issues affecting them such as accommodation, salary and general welfare are not given the needed attention.
The strike has angered patients who early on Tuesday marched to the main administration to demand answers.
“I came here to collect my results [after] samples were taken yesterday. And after reaching here I put my card into a box and all of a sudden a lady attending to the cards left us without any excuse. Then we heard that they are on strike,” a patient told Joy News’ Yaa Asamoah.
As at midday Tuesday when Joy News visited the hospital, conditions were calm and patients whose laboratory tests were ready were being attended to.
This was after a marathon meeting between the biomedical scientists and the hospital’s board of directors although Joy News has picked up indications that the meetings were inconclusive.
Fresh patients asked to take laboratory tests are turned away and can receive attention only after the impasse has been resolved.
Authorities at the hospital have declined comment.
