The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has directed that all shops remain closed between 0600 hours to 1200 hours on Saturday to allow for a clean-up exercise within the metropolis.
A statement signed by Mr James Dorgbetor, Head of Public Affairs at AMA on Friday said the directive was to observe a three-day massive clean-up exercise under the "New Accra for a better Ghana campaign" aimed at keeping the city clean.
It said the exercise would start on Friday, December 11, 2009, where all schools, institutions and workers were requested to clean their respective areas.
It said Saturday, December 12, 2009, which was the mega one for the general public "all shops are to remain closed during the clean-up exercise from 0600 hours to 1200 hours".
It said on Sunday, there would be a mop-up exercise to include those, who could not participate in the two previous one.
It advised the general public to participate fully by cleaning around their surroundings and work places.
