Kotoko 2-1 Bechem

Bechem United’s woes at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi continued on Sunday as Ahmed Toure’s late penalty gave Asante Kototo a 2-1 victory on match day 20 of the First Capital Plus Premier League.

Dauda Mohammed shot Kotoko into the lead in the 30 minute, before former  Kotoko player,  Aminu Mahammed leveled for Bechem United with 21 minutes into the second half.

The Brong Ahafo side after the goal dominated play, but failed to take the lead.

David Duncan made some changes in his team following Abeiku Ainooson’s injury that forced him out of the game by bringing on Stephen Oduro to augment his midfield and also Amos Frimpong the skipper for Kotoko moved from the left back to replace Ainooson at the centre back position, while Eric Donkor was pushed from the left wing to the left back.

With 4 minutes to the end of the 90 minutes, the centre referee awarded a penalty in Kotoko’s favour when a Kotoko striker was fouled in the 18-yard box by the away team's goalkeeper.

Kotoko’s leading top scorer in the league Ahmed Toure confidently converted from the resultant penalty to restore their lead and took his goal tally to 10.

This defeat is Bechem United’s 4th in the hands of Kotoko in 4 games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium: Both the home and away games between them in the 2011/12 season which Kotoko won were played on this same venue, in addition to last season’s loss.  

BA United 1-1 Hearts

Ten man Hearts of Oak held BA United to a 1-1 draw at the Sunyani Coronation Park on match day 20 of the ongoing First Capital Plus Bank Premier on Sunday.

BA United a relegation threatened club played above themselves as their fight to escape relegation still continue despite their board room wrangling.

The Sunyani based club started the game as the brightest side; they dominated and created goal scoring opportunities but Soulama Abdoulaye in post for the Phobians curtailed all the dangerous incursions from the home side.

But their aggressiveness on the field of play paid off in the 22nd minute when former Hearts of Oak defender Nana Egyir scored against his former employer from the spot-kick after Isaac Oduro handled the ball in his penalty box.

After the goal, the Phobians came from their shell and upped their game searching for the equalizer but the attackers of the away side led by Gilbert Fiamenyo were all not at their best in the game.

The persistent pressure from Hearts of Oak in the 44th minute opened the defense of BA Utd as back from injury Selasi Adjei from nowhere tucked home a rebound after Gilbert Fiamenyo effort was saved.

Both teams in the second half intensified their performance but Hearts of Oak was the better side as they dictated the pace as in most occasions the home side was second to the ball. In the 65th minute the Phobians got reduced to 10 men after Owusu Bempah was showed the exit after his second bookable offense.

However BA Utd failed to take full advantage of Hearts of Oak numerical disadvantage; as the Phobians held on to frustrate the home side which positively earned them a point after 90 minutes of scintillating football at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

The results means BA Utd is still placed at the bottom of the log sheet with 16 points while the Phobians have dropped from the 10th position to 13th with 26 points.

Olympics 1-0 Liberty

There was a sigh of relief for coach Yaw Acheampong, his players and board of Great Olympics after match week 20 of the First Capital Plus Bank Premier league.

The Wonder Club was reported to have their training equipment seized by irate fans who are disappointed with the consistency of poor results which saw the club lose its midtable position to occupy the second but last slot on the league table.

Head coach Yaw Acheampong had ice running through his veins to get the team back winning ways, and they rightly responded against regional neighbours, Liberty Professionals who were on seven-league run without defeat.

With Olympics in dire need of points, coming up against one of the best teams of the second round of the season playing with aplomb, was always going to be a herculean task for to write the wrongs right.

Olympics started on the front foot but were immediately pegged back by Liberty Professionals who created the first goalscoring chance of the game. But with the return veteran play holder Godwin Attram, Olympics did not shiver after getting caught flat footed.

They kept their cool, and their skipper led by example to settle early nerves with a cracker to beat Daniel Adjei in the Liberty's post on the 8th minute, and goal remained the only goal of the afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium. Liberty flew out of the blocks to get back on level terms, but Alfred Nelson's header from Tanimu's cross went sky high.

Pressure mounted on Olympics as Liberty took control and dictated the pace of the game but Olympics remained resolute to see off the game before recess.

Liberty enjoyed their share of possession, but poor finishing cost them the equaliser early on the second half. With the game going for a slim victory hopes were high in the Liberty bench to snatch a deserved point at Ghana's 'Wembley', but it was not be as Olympics back line looked as solid as concrete.

In football, you win when the football gods are in your favour not when you deserve to.  You may have played your best game, but you don't always get the required result.

Liberty Professional leave the Accra Sports Stadium looking up to nature with questions like, 'what did we do to deserve this defeat'?  Their seven-game unbeaten run has come to an end at time the team exudes total confidence.

And Olympics heave a sigh of relief, hoping, long may the victories continue.

Aduana 1-0 WAFA

Aduana Stars pipped Sogakope WAFA 1-0 at the Nana Agyeman Badu Park in Dormaa Ahenkro on Sunday afternoon. 

Midfielder Derrick Saseraku's goal was enought to earn all the maximum points for the hosts when he connected home from a free-kick in the 57th minute.

WAFA showed a lot of energy and skill to hold Aduana to their game for the entire first-half creating a couple of chances.

But Kwabena Ameyaw’s tactics works for his side in the second-half as Saseraku netted invariably to seemingly dent the spirit of the visitors.

The victory sends Aduana to the second spot on the Ghana Premier League table
